Winsor McCay

I purchased a lovely book of Winsor McCay that chronicles the entire journey of Little Nemo in Slumberland.  I really love the world McCay created in these stories.   It's magical AND old timey, zing!

I did a shot a while back with him in mind.

Here is a shot I did for the San Francisco alt/country band Or, the Whale.

The Blog Begins

Hello.

This is my blog, the first one I've ever had.  I started it mostly for the same reason other photographer's I know started one - to have a place where you can put up work and ideas that don't quite make it to the end of the road but still have a bit of merit.  Also I figured this might serve as a sort of appendix to my website; it will be a place for me to write about the image making process as well as the regular going's on with my photography and where it sometimes ends up.

I do mean to warn you that I might not update this blog in any sort of frequent manner but I intend to add anything that seems relevant or interesting.
For example I might just provide a link to a friend or two or maybe just something irrelevent but awesome.

For now I think I'll start it off with a link to an image I shot for The New York Times Magazine.  I was supposed to illustrate a very uncool, yet effective teacher.  The toilet paper behind him illustrated his uncoolness while the stacks of apples illustrated his success as a teacher.  It was a great time and I was glad to be a part of the magazine.

That's all for now.  Till next time.

In earnest,
Matt

By the way - this blog title has nothing to do with the 1978 Christopher Walken western film of the same name, but it looks pretty sweet and I'm going to have to rent it.
